What to Blog About

August 9, 2017 by Mickey Griffith

So just recently, I went out into social media land and I asked my fellow people, “What would you like to see in a blog or social media content?” And one of thesnarky little trolls came back and said, “I’d like to see a blog about what people should be putting in a blog.” That’s very funny, but then I thought about it. That’s probably a good thing for me to talk about. I’m not a blogging expert, just so you know, and I’m not a social media expert. What I am is a referral marketing expert and what I would like to talk about is how you can put content on social media that may result in more referrals for you. Oh now, we’re getting somewhere.

Okay, so here is my plan for you for social media regarding referral marketing. Most social media experts will tell you that you should be doing some combination of providing content, the largest combination that has value, a little bit of sales and a little bit of personal information. And I think that’s probably right for referral marketing as well but here’s what I think you can do and not upset the balance of your normal social media plan. I think that you can promote your referral sources probably way more than you do already. So, I’ve got a friend named Eric Lacy. He does commercial loans for businesses that are having trouble getting loans through normal means. And I could post something on social media that promotes Eric’s business rather than saying, “Hey, you should go check out this subject because I’m so cool.” It doesn’t matter how cool you are as long as somebody else is talking about you, it always sounds so much better.

So what I can do for my referral sources to make deposits in that relationship, is promoting his business instead of my own. By the way I’m also providing some value to my clients or to my people that are watching my blog because I’m providing a resource that they could go to and an expert that could answer a question for them if they had a question. I’m also providing my referral source of platform so that they can stand up in front of my people and give their expertise as a way of establishing credibility.

So, if you want to know what to put on social media, there is a gold mine of material waiting for you by going out and promoting each of your referral sources that you can do more referral business with. I hope this helps you fill up your blog. I’m Mickey Griffith with Asentiv.
