Hello everybody. Mickey Griffith here with the Referral Institute, and I have a question for you. I’d like you to use your imagination, if you will, for a bit. I’d like you to imagine that it’s five years in the future, and you are at an industry-related convention and you’re walking around talking with people, and somebody asks you, “What’s going on in your world right now as a result of your business?” Can you imagine what your world will look like in five years as a result of your business? For those of you that have heard a question like this before, you might know that I’m talking about vision. It’s a really important question. What’s the vision that you have for your company’s future, even just five years from now? If you don’t have a vision, you’re really just a hamster on a wheel out there just churning it out every day with nowhere to go. What would you really like to see happening around you in your world as a result of what your business is doing five years from now? Can you dream? Can you put that into words and create a vision about what’s going on in your world?
One of the great responses I ever had to this question was from Robyn Kesnow, and her answer was, “I’m speaking at that convention.” I thought that was a great response as just one indicator of the things that she’d like to see happening in her world, and it was a great answer. So what kind of things would you like to see happen in your world in the next five years? The more closely you can articulate it, the more vividly you can describe it, the more complete you make your vision, the better your chances are of reaching that vision through a series of goals. Once you’ve got an outstanding vision, then you can do what we call “Reverse Engineering” to set goals in place to make those things happen. Here’s my advice. Take some time to dream a little bit. It’s amazing to me how difficult this subject is for some people. We’re maybe taught not to dream so much anymore, and I find that kinda sad. So take a little blue-sky time. Try to look into the future, and what is your vision for your business five years from now?
I’m Mickey Griffith from the Referral Institute.
